Fishing is an activity of catching fish from the sea. It is the profession of certain people, a hobby for some people, and a necessity for some. To catch fish, fishing nets are used, Fishing nets are the nets fabricated from fibers and woven in a grid-like structure. Fishing nets are also called fish traps. These are usually meshes designed by knotting a moderately thin thread. Previously, nets were knit from grasses, flaxes, and other fibrous plant material. After that period, cotton was used. In the current era, nets are usually produced of man-made polyamides such as, nylon, although nets of natural polyamides such as wool or silk thread are also used.
Some of the essential types of fishing nets are the following: Bottom Trawl A trawl is a large, conical-shaped net used to catch Demersal fish like groundfish, cod, squid, rockfish, etc. These nets are called bottom trawl as they are made to be towed along the sea bottom. With the aid of one or two boats, it is pulled out through the water. Cast Net Cast nets are also called throw nets. These are small round nets use to catch smaller fish, its weights are on the boundaries which are thrown by the fisher. These are usually four meters in diameter. The fishermen throw the net by hand in such a way that it spreads out on the water and sinks. Fish are easily caught as the net is dragged back in. Haaf Net Haaf net is a special net used to capture the Salmon fish. This net is set in a rectangular wooden frame, which is about four or five meters long and two meters wide maintained by three legs. It has a central pole that spreads from one of the longer edges at a right angle. The fisherman paddles into deep water and sinks the net, holding it straight with the central pole.
